Vaporization is a physical concept that implies the transition to the gaseous state of a substance a different form. Thus, the laser vaporization of the prostate is a physical process of evaporation of the liquid component from the affected tissues under the action of the laser.

Laser the procedure is performed with simultaneous coagulation of blood vessels of the body. Using the green laser can remove the tissue of the prostate at a speed of up to 2 g per minute, which necessarily affects the duration of the operation and possible removal of space-occupying lesions.

What is the procedure?

Laser vaporization is a variety of endourological surgery, which involves the introduction of the laser instrument into the body through the urethra, eliminating the need for incisions. Such interference all over under the control of the doctor performing the procedure, and allows you to monitor the progress of surgery display on the monitor screen.

The use of laser vaporization helps quickly and efficiently eliminate the symptoms of the disease and partly to normalize urination. The incidence of complications in applying this method is extremely small. The advantage of laser vaporization in comparison with surgery is also a shorter duration of the procedure. On average, the procedure takes no more than one hour. The recovery period of the patient after laser treatment is fairly short and painless.

There are the following types of techniques for this procedure:

  • Contact vaporization. Used in cases of the presence of a lesion of the prostate volume up to 30 ml.
  • Contact laser resection. The way resection of the prostate laser, requiring high professionalism of the operating surgeon.
  • Interstitial laser coagulation. Laser, due to its energy, contributes to changes in the tissues of the affected prostate, improves urination and helps eliminate other signs of disease.

Indications for

Laser vaporization of the prostate is recommended in case the volume of the breast is from 30 to 80 ml. In the case of large size of the pathological education requires the use of vaporization in combination with TUR (transurethral resection).

Laser vaporization is not contraindicated in older patients. Due to the coagulation of vessels by the laser during theprocedure and no risk of bleeding, patients do not require early discontinuation of drugs that promote blood thinners.

Laser vaporization is recommended for use in cases where:

  • The volume of the adenoma was 30-80 ml.
  • Drug treatment is ineffective.
  • Urination broken.
  • The patient is experiencing when urinating pain.

Possible complications

Laser vaporization is the most sparing method of treatment of BPH. Removal of the adenoma, this method rarely leads to complications.

However, they are:

  • Possible development of recurrence and needed re-treatment by laser vaporization after 5-10 years.
  • The possible development of erectile dysfunction. Although the risk of this complication is minimal in comparison with other methods of removal of adenoma of the prostate.
  • The occurrence of retrograde ejaculation – a violation of excretion of semen during sexual intercourse, when it is produced inside the bladder.
  • Cicatricial narrowing of the urethra due to the development of the rumen of the prostate at the site of intervention.
